Mission Statement : Search for Common Ground's Radio for Peacebuilding, Africa project aims: - to help sub-Saharan African radio broadcasters' develop their potential to have a constructive impact on conflicts of all kinds, - to build on other successes - to share lessons learnt with other radio professionals across the continent. Therefore, the project takes the form of a series of interlinked elements that complement each another. Each of these discrete elements will be pre-tested and assessed in a practical environment of professionals. Then it will be re-written or re-designed accordingly before being taken into a final or 'public' phase. The project is multi-pronged as follows: - a baseline attitudinal survey of African radio broadcasters' knowledge of, attitudes toward, and use of peacebuilding techniques - two workshops for radio broadcasters to build new skills and techniques, and to help develop practical training manuals - the development of three training manuals for radio professionals in English, French, Swahili and Hausa - the production and broadcast of numerous exemplary programmes in English, French, Swahili and Hausa - the development of training modules for media schools and colleges in Africa and elsewhere, so that the next generation of broadcasters knows, recognises and is able to use these techniques. Target Audience The project's most important target audience is sub-Saharan African broadcasters themselves. However, by producing the programmes, the materials, and the website in the four languages, the project has an ultimate, potential target audience of about 73 million radio listeners in sub-Saharan Africa.

[ENGLISH: see presentation of the project into the objectives] En 2004, Search for Common Ground a lancé un projet "Radio for Peacebuilding, Africa" dont le but est de développer des techniques de construction de la paix adaptées au média radio en Afrique sub-saharienne. En créant ce projet, Search for Common Ground veut renforcer la radio comme vecteur de construction de la paix auprès des professionnels africains. Ce projet est géré simultanément depuis Bruxelles, Belgique et depuis Bujumbura, Burundi. Un site Internet spécifique est lié à ce projet : http://www.radiopeaceafrica.org Ce site se veut un outil interactif et efficace pour les professionnels de la radio (journalistes, présentateurs, scénaristes...). Son objectif est de rendre disponibles les programmes radios, manuels pédagogiques et autres documents réalisés dans le cadre du projet Radio for Peacebuilding, Africa, et de permettre un échange constructif à propos de ces réalisations. Pour accéder à l'ensemble des pages il est demandé de s'enregistrer: pas de panique, la procédure est des plus simples. Search for Common Ground (voir notre fiche sous ce nom et le site http://www.sfcg.org) est une organisation non gouvernementale qui oeuvre dans le domaine de la prévention/résolution des conflits. L'objectif est de transformer la manière dont les individus et les groupes abordent les conflits dans le monde, afin d’éviter les approches de confrontation et de chercher des solutions fondées sur la coopération. La plupart des projets de Search for Common Ground intègrent une dimension média.
