EcoNews Africa is an NGO that examines global environment and development issues from an African perspective and reports on local, national and regional activities in Africa. The website under the section "Networks" offers access to two networks involved in Community Media issues : Kenya Community Network (KCOMNET) and Community Media Network for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMNESA); both are listed in the TRRAACE website. The EcoNews Africa website gathers dozen of Word documents on the following themes: Community Media, Globalisation, Poverty, Debt Aid and Finance, Civil Society. The last up-date of the website appears to be 2002. Actually, Econews Africa has 2 programmes NECCAB and CAG: 1. Campaigning, Advocacy and Governance(CAG) programme deals with campaigns and advocacy on international policies that have a direct or indirect impact on national policies of developing countries. The programme follows keenly the happenings at the WTO meetings, the Bretton Woods Institutions, and annual G7 meetings. 2. Networking, Communication, and Capacity Building programme (NECCAB) deals with the community radios in a project called East Africa Community Media Project. There are currently 3 community radio stations under this project : each community radio station is located in remote and semi-arid rural areas. * Mangelete Community Radio, located in Nthongoni (Mtito-Andei, Kenya) * Kagadi Kibaale Community Radio (Kibaale, Uganda) * Orkonerei Radio Services in Terrat (Simanjiro, Tanzania) EcoNews Africa acts at the coordinator for these 3 radio stations and also as the fundraiser.
