Panos Easter Africa is active in six areas: Governance & Globalisation, Health, Media for Peace, Media pluralism, Pastoralism and Gender. The website presents the organisation and the various programmes, without any specific "plus". The Media for Peace in Africa programme is a large multi-year programme of activities across Africa, planned and implemented jointly by Panos West Africa, Panos Eastern Africa, Panos Paris and Panos London. Some activities began in Panos West Africa in 2000, but the programme as a whole begins in mid-2001 with recruitment of project coordinators in Panos West Africa and Panos Eastern Africa. Panos Eastern Africa appears to be still at its initial stage, and full of plans and projects. One of them is the support and encouragement to broadcasting quality in the region: this goal will be reached through the running of a radi state-of-the-art digital editing studio at its office in Kampala (from mid-2004). This appears to be the first step of an ambitious programme, including: Training Panos Eastern Africa will also be carrying out seminars and programme- making master classes aimed at increasing the quantity and quality of public interest broadcasting in the region. Some training activities will take place in the Panos studio facilities in Kampala and other activities will take place in partner radio stations. In-station fellowships A number of year-long fellowships will be awarded to producers or programme-makers to work within their radio stations to cover key themes chosen by Panos. Radio programmes According to CATIA newsletter (April 2004), Panos East Africa has been supporting the production and broadcast of a radio drama series - Kayisso Ssesiriba - on sustainable agriculture in Uganda. According to PEA website, Panos Eastern Africa sets up a funds to support stations in their coverage of key themes identified by Panos. Panos will send out regular briefings to radio stations outlining what kinds of programmes they want to support. Producers will be invited to apply by writing a proposal and suggested budget to produce a programme or a series of programmes and the best proposals will be awarded a small grant. The features produced are free for public who want to use them. They can be downloaded from the Inter World Radio website or Panos Eastern Africa Website.
