The name of this network appears as the result of a workshop organised in Bamenda, Cameroon in 1999 on "small scale community radio" sponsored by the World Association for Christian Communication (WACC, London). The core group of the Cameroon Rural Radio Network is formed by the 5 rural local radio stations set up in various provinces under the programme run by the "International Agency of Francophonie" (AIF) and "Radio Femmes" establlished in Mbalmayo with UNESCO support. The network is registered as an autonomous body with coordination rotated from one station to another one within the network. For the period 2002 - 2004, the Cameroon Rural Radio Network is directed by Radio Oku, located in Kumbo. Early 2000 to 2002, the network organised various meetings to evaluate the progress made by the various radio stations; exchange visits were organised between the stations and two refresher courses were held in 2001 and 2002. |
